Perimenopause Bestie started by translating the research for women in perimenopause into plain language. It led to one conclusion: the information mostly existed. What was missing was somewhere to hold the whole picture of one body, over time. That is what ALJA is.
“I don’t ask you to take my word for anything. Every claim carries its source. If I can’t back it up, I don’t say it.”
A woman’s cycle is in one app. Her symptoms are somewhere else, if she has managed to write them down at all. Her sleep is on a wearable, her workouts in another app, her food in another. What she has learned about her body is scattered across podcasts, saved posts and a course she bought once. Her medical notes are somewhere else entirely.
All of it is happening in the same body, and none of it can see the rest. So the most important questions — what is changing, what keeps showing up, what tends to happen together, what is worth bringing to a clinician — go unanswered, not because the information doesn’t exist, but because it has never been in one place.
ALJA begins with perimenopause because this audience has a real, underserved problem and because it is where Perimenopause Bestie began. But it is built around the larger observation: a woman’s health picture should be one picture, and it should be useful.
I started researching perimenopause after watching my mom go through it — the dismissals, the “you’re fine,” the years of guessing at her own body. When I went looking for answers for her, I found that most of the information already existed. It was scattered across research papers, guidelines and forums, written in different languages for different readers, and impossible to turn into a decision about what to actually do on a Tuesday.
That isn’t a knowledge problem. It’s a systems problem, and systems are what I build. I’m an engineer, not a clinician. I can’t examine you and I won’t pretend to. What I can build is the thing that was missing: somewhere to keep the whole picture, understand what it means, and work out what is worth doing next.
So the credibility here doesn’t come from me. It comes from the evidence we cite, the sources we show you, the clinicians we’re bringing in to review this properly, and the women who tell us what actually helped. Read our evidence standards →
